Sorrow

Today, Monday April 15th, was my little sister and her husband’s 2nd Wedding Anniversary.
Today, Monday April 15th, was Tax Day in the United States (ours were done weeks and weeks ago).
Today, Monday April 15th, was the annual Boston Marathon.
And today, Monday April 15th, was the day a tragic attack was perpetrated on American soil.
At this point, no one seems to know who did it or why. I’m sure, all across social media, there are people pointing fingers, bitching and moaning, laying blame and spewing hate. But there are also so many more out there praying and organizing help for survivors, sharing love and giving of themselves.
It is easy to forget how many good people there are in the world, when confronted by such horrors, such despicable acts against our fellow men. It is to simple to get caught up in the negative.
I don’t have anything profound to say, nothing to add to the conversation, except that as far as I can tell, it is imperative to remember the good.
…despite that, I really wish I had stayed in bed, watching “The Big Bang Theory” with my husband, and remained innocent of all the carnage.

Edit: Patton Oswalt says it more eloquently than I could here.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, “The good outnumber you, and we always will.”
~Patton Oswalt, 4/15/13
