Sick.

I had every intention of writing three posts for the week on Sunday. < insert comment about the path to Hell >.
Mark had been sick all week – just miserable – and when he’s home sick, its super-hard to focus. Hell, when he’s home at all! Tee-hee. But last week was sort of a bust. And then Saturday we had an epic gaming day (I can’t wait to share Mim’s latest story!) so I got no writing done. So Sunday was it. It was going to be great.
      …
…and then Venna knocked my cup of coffee all over my lovely ergonomic, quiet-key keyboard… I say Venna, even though it was my elbow, it was because of her that I jumped up so fast… Totally not my fault, right? Hah!
Anyway, the beastly event killed my keyboard, which was not even a whole year old. Even after it dried it fails to respond at all. I was able to borrow my cheap-o work keyboard (recently bought to replace the ergonomic one I had bought just before buying this lovely one last year – the “1” key doesn’t work all the time so I replaced it and used it as a back-up, but then Mark’s keyboard randomly stopped working a few days before that and so he took my 1-sucks keyboard, I bought a $10 dollar replacement for the work computer, and…wait- What was my point?) for the day, but I knew it would have to go back to my work set-up Monday, leaving me keyboardless.
      Blah blah blah, Josie. Jeez.
Anyway – I could have gone for another cheap-o Wal-Mart one, but I cannot type brilliant novels on that (haha, like I can on anything) so I ordered a copy via Amazon Prime.
      And all was well.
Now, the title of this post is “Sick.” so you’d think I’d mention illness at some point, right? Otherwise some quip about lots of keyboard malfuntions… Here goes the rest of the story.
Sunday afternoon, Mark, Venna, and I had a lovely cook-out with our neighbors-slash-awesome friends. Burgers & baked beans, beer for them and iced tea for us. It was a good time shared by all.
But the weather was changing. The skies were rapidly darkening with storm clouds and a few drops of rain hit us as we packed it in. The humidity rose about a bajillion percent and not long after we all went inside, I started to feel a little tickle in my throat.
A little tickled turned into a full-fledged sore throat, complete with deep racking cough and fever, by about 11pm and I knew I had gotten whatever crud it was that kept Mark down all the previous week.
      I was sick.
      Sick, damn it.
Monday, I hardly got out of bed (except to go to the grocery store, which… grr… we won’t discuss here). Tuesday, still sick as heck, I again had to go to the store (boo-hiss) and then, so Mark could sleep, spent a few hours out in the backyard with Venna. She loved it.
I got sunburned like nobody’s business. I thought, gee, I’m in the shade, I’ll be okay.
      I am not okay.
So fast-forward to Wednesday, today. I had to reschedule Venna’s V-E-T appointment, because I am in no shape to deal with that. I cannot call off (because if you’re out three days they make you get a doc’s note to return and I can’t afford to find and visit a doc today). I’m hot and its only 11 a.m., I’m cranky and phlegm-y and cannot face another night of this job. My skin is red and radiating heat; my head is throbbing, and my dog is begging to go out and play.
Today, worse than Monday or Tuesday, I am sick.
      Sick.
      …sick.

Signed, Josie
