Sailla

Today’s snippet, titled “Sailla”, is a piece I wrote about an NPC in my Pathfinder Campaign (sort of the “King Maker” adventure path). The intention behind this was to illustrate events occurring in the world, but away from the PCs. They’re supposed to be writing their own pieces about actual in-game events. We shall see if any materialize.
Be forewarned, there are mature themes and naughty language below.

Branches whipped at her face and arms, a thousand pinpricks to slow her escape. She buried her cheek against the strong, thick-coated neck of her stolen mount and plowed ahead, casting desperate glances behind her. She felt the spell shimmer out of existence and her features reverted to their natural state.
The dog’ll be on me in a heartbeat if I can’t lose ‘em, she thought. From the depths of her brain, she pulled up a long dormant memory – a half-forgotten adventure tale about a chase and a river and goblin-dogs nipping at the hero’s heels. Up the river, of course! They’ll expect me to go downstream, even if they follow this far.
A heavy cloak covered her shoulders, billowing over her back. It was heavy and dark with no insignia. The tall fellow had been so kind and gentle, tucking it around her to cover her practically naked body as she trembled and wept. Even as a smirk formed on her lips at the memory of those self-righteous murders making accusations while they looted the belongings of their victims, she winced and reached up to touch her throat.
That little blond bitch was stronger than I’d have guessed. I’ll have a nasty bruise come morning. She growled, narrowing her eyes. That bitch.
Wrenching the reins, she tightened her knees around the horse and with a splash, she and the shaggy beast plunged into the river. The evening was unpleasantly warm, even in the tattered rags she wore, and the icy droplets of mountain river were welcome relief. An hour passed, and then two; no pursuit was apparent.
Ree let the horse rest a moment, standing in the shallows with the river tugging at her hooves.
“What now?” she said, stroking the beast’s neck idly. What now… what should I tell the Mistress? Will the Master strike me dead for failing to preserve ties with Yaga-Fi and the Green Blood Nation? Or for failing to give my life to defend those filthy beasts?
Sighing, Ree leaned down in the saddle and gathered a palmful of water, raising it to her lips. She wet her mouth, swishing it around, then spat. They really weren’t so bad, she thought. Yaga-Fi and La’Yaga had been rather lovely company, once you got past their queerly sweet love affair and accepted their rude humor as low-brow, but amusing. And they had been tremendously skilled lovers. Not that she ever participated, though she did observe.
      A lot.
Curiosity had always been a problem for her.
Still, ladies were not her type. Not even attractive human ones like that quiet archeress, the petite paladin, or the statuesque beauty with the strange headdress. Rather, Ree preferred men. All sort of them, to be truthful, but especially those whose height exceeded her own, at five feet, nine inches, and whose hands were large enough to span her waist. Or her throat.
Ree chuckled, feeling a stir deep within her loins. Creative bitches, she thought, recalling the endless variety of uses they had found for that insane apparatus. Perhaps I shall commission one of my own. And invite that dark-haired fellow over for some playtime. Or if he’s not suited to be a bedmate, I suppose the blond wastrel or even that oiled hin would do.
The horse neighed, shifting nervously beneath her. Ree raised up in the saddle, squinting into the growing shadows. She would prefer to ditch the beast, to trust her own feet to get her home, but the way was long, the night was young, and Ree had many miles to cover if she wanted to find Nugz’s Lugz before they reported Yaga-Fi and Ree’s failure.
“Onward, you big stupid beast.” She squeezed her knees again and the horse began to pick her way upstream. “And I hope you’re surefooted in the mountains.”
